Saweet Singapore

Singapore

Singapore was saweet indeed. It was a breath of fresh air…. literally. Put your walking shoes on because this city was made for walking…. everywhere. Vanessa and I hopped on to the subway from the airport and watched the chic fashion scene as the women dressed to impress and both sexes were armed with the latest and greatest technological wonders. English (or Singlish), Hindi, Malay, and Mandarin could be heard among the masses as well the information given by the metro.

Vanessa and I had a nice place set near outdoor restos, the metro station, and a block away from the famed Orchard Rd. full of people walking and shopping and relaxing. We hit our normal places in Little India for Masala Dosas and the 24 hour supermarket with about five floors with just about anything one could want (make sure to go at 2:00 AM to beat the hordes). We found some good Vietnamese restos for Pho Ga and Spring rolls too.

We went to Sentosa island and visited the beach, the gardens, and the sites. The transportation was free on the island and took you from beach to beach. Singapore does it right. They make it so easy you have to like it. Also, it is a place I feel really safe. I am not sure if this says something about the laws here or caning, but I read an article of a couple who were caught robbing people near the subway station at knife point…..15 years in prison and the male will get about 24 swats on his backside. Now that is a bum rap.

Vanessa and I had great news from the doctor and we were able to see “Baby D” with feet crossed and moving the little arms about as if waving at Mom and Dad….good stuff. The doctor and care here were light years better than Indonesia as well. The doc said most women give birth at night because this is when the progesterone levels drop……

The weird thing now is noticing how many pregnant women are about. It seemed as if everyone in Singapore was having a baby while we were there. It was like playing "slug bug" only with pregnant women....my arm is still sore.

One of the highlights or our visit was an eye-witness account not one but two Asian couple kissing in public. Whoooaa. Kissing in public is illegal in Indonesia as is “livin’ in sin” as they say in Atlanta, GA, but it appears kissing is alive and well in Singapore…just another reason to visit.

We finished off our visit with a great dinner on the water at Clarke Quay, a boat ride of the city by night, and dessert to finish it off…..nice.
